I’m a hopeless romantic, so I’ve always loved seeing those grand gesture proposals. You know, like when the guy rents time on the jumbo-tron during a playoff game to propose to his girl? I just love how “that guy” is so willing to put everything on the line and make a fool of himself just for the chance at spending the rest of his life with that one special lady. Awe…
But then, there are those times when the grand romantic gesture goes miserably wrong. I’m sorry to say, but I love those equally as much. It’s just funny. I’m not talking about rejection (that would be mean… well, mean-er). I’m talking about when something malfunctions or someone misses their cue – and the whole thing goes awry. Since the gesture was so grand (and pubic), it’s usually caught on video, and then shared all over the internet. Lucky us!
There are tons of these floating around the interwebs, but I think I only have time to share one today. Don’t worry: It’s a doozie.
Reed Harris planned a romantic evening for his soon-to-be bride Kaitlin Whipple. This wasn’t just any evening, though. This was the night he would pop the question – in a big way. He had everything planned out perfectly. Oh, wait. No, he didn’t. He took her to Wendy’s and hid her ring in a Frosty. Seriously, dude? Well, that could be enough to make this one of the world’s worst proposals, but it doesn’t end there. Kaitlin actually swallowed the engagement ring, which can only mean one thing: It wasn’t very big. It also wasn’t her fault that she swallowed the ring. Think about this for a moment: Have you ever sucked down an ice-cream milkshake? Can you feel what’s going on in your mouth? Yeah, it was an all-around bone-headed move on Reed’s part.
But, she said yes, so maybe it was just a temporary loss of brain cells we were dealing with. You can watch the couple’s interview with Matt Lauer below to hear their side of the story. I just love when Matt asks her if she was thinking “Why am I marrying this guy?” Yes, that’s exactly what we all were thinking too.
Ah well. They were young and in love. Just barely out of high school and ready to start a new life together. They weren’t going to let a little mess like this get in their way. And, now they have a story to tell their grandkids.
